This is a tricky question to answer! Some locations are more popular than others due to the type of space, accessibility and style.
For example, a house located in the inner suburbs with plenty of interior natural light and a neutral colour palette will be hired more frequently than say a small cottage property in a rural setting. That's not to say that the rural property won't be used for TV dramas, commercials or fashion shoots; it's just that it is a very specific look with additional travel that won't be sought after as often. It's all dependant on the particular aesthetics and location hirers are searching for at any given time. For example, they may be looking for a long driveway with a double garage and a modern house or a small kitchen with brightly coloured paint or tiles.
Even if your property meets all the criteria, factors such as scheduling conflicts or the need for proximity to a studio can affect its selection. For each location requirement, directors are typically presented with numerous options, often more than ten. They will then narrow it down to a few finalists for in-person visits, and ultimately, only one location will be chosen. While we would love for filming to be a consistent source of income, the reality is it can be quite unpredictable. Our best advice is to stay optimistic, present your location as attractively as possible (high-quality photos are key!), and remain patient.
